It dominates the Qatar Peninsula on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East and only borders Saudi Arabia to the south, while the rest of its territory is encircled by the Persian Gulf. An inlet of the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Bahrain, is what sets Qatar apart from its neighboring country Bahrain. The sophisticated capital of Doha is where over 80% of the country's wealthy population resides, and the majority of the land is comprised of sprawling, barren desert.
